"I love how every project is unique. It’s fun going to companies, learning what they do, understanding their needs and challenges, and then being a part of their success."
Growing up the seventh of nine kids in Pennsylvania, Dave was constantly playing sports of some kind. “There were always enough of us to field a team,” he says with a chuckle. Dave also enjoyed math and reading, noting that historical biographies were a particular favorite. Even those sometimes came back to sports, however: “One summer I read every biography I could find on all the NFL quarterbacks and then I decided I was going to be a quarterback,” he recalls. Like most things he sets his mind to, he met that goal.
Dave pursued engineering studies following in the footsteps of his father and several siblings. “One of my brothers said to me, ‘Even if you don’t work as an engineer, you’ll learn how to think through problems.’” His first job as a construction project engineer presented just such a problem; it did not turn out to be his ideal career. He solved that by leveraging his expertise into construction business development, which led to a fulfilling career, one he was able to transition successfully to Vermont. Still, in the back of his mind, he knew he wanted to start his own company some day.
“I’d always been computer-geeky with databases to manage my business contacts,” Dave says, “and when Dan introduced me to SharePoint, I said, ‘Every company should have this.’” The two partnered with that goal in mind. Dave plays a variety of critical supporting roles from business development to client relationship manager to back-end office logistics. “I try to give our team the tools and atmosphere so they can do what they do best,” he says. "Every day at Aerie brings something different", Dave says enthusiastically. “I love how every project is unique. It’s fun going to companies, learning what they do, understanding their needs and challenges, and then being a part of their success.”
