Power Platform Features to Look forward to in 2020 Release Wave 2

Recently, Microsoft and the Power Platform team has published the release plan for 2020 Wave 2.  It contains the features being launched between this fall and early spring for Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents and the AI Builder applications. Quick links to those features can be found here.

Power Apps

  • New global search experience in model apps.
    • One of my favorite features comping to model apps is the improved search. The search bar becomes much more prominent than it was previously. This also aligns it better with other Microsoft products such as Teams and SharePoint.
      new search
  • Enable Power BI report or dashboard to be a model-driven app system dashboard.
    • Previously, you could only embed Power BI dashboards as personal dashboards and had to share them to the users who need them. Now you can create dashboards as system dashboards and distribute them to all users.

Power BI

  • Analyze in Power BI from SharePoint lists.
    • Automatically generate Power BI visuals based upon list data with a single click and publish custom reports to display in SharePoint Online.

Power Automate

  • Smoother on-ramps for Power Automate and Power Apps.
    • A much better integration when making apps that use Power Automate Flows.
  • Templatizing and distributing common business process scenarios.
    • Template common tasks and distribute these processes directly from within applications such as Teams.

Power Virtual Agents

  • Basic bot theming
    • Now when authoring bots, you will be able to customize the look and feel to match your branding.
  • Deploy Power Virtual Agents as Alexa Skills
    • You can deploy your bot as an Alexa skill.
  • Adaptive Cards
    • Author rich content without code by using the Adaptive Cards directly in the bot authoring experience.

AI Builder

  • Receipt scanning
    • A new AI Builder scenario that can scan and extract information on receipts.
  • Form processing models can support multiple document layouts
    • Process documents that may have different layouts from different sources. Previously you needed to build separate models for each version.

Stay tuned for updates to the features list and more on Dynamics and the other Platform applications!
